Members of the Central Election Commission met with members of the OSCE/ODIHR Mission

On October 18, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Abdirov met with Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Mission for the Observation of the Early Presidential Elections of the Republic of Kazakhstan Urszula Gacek.

The meeting was attended by members and employees of the CEC office, as well as members of the OSCE/ODIHR Mission.

Nurlan Abdirov expressed his gratitude to the OSCE/ODIHR Mission for the decision to send a delegation of 30 long-term and 300 short-term observers to observe the early elections of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Chairman of the Central Election Commission acquainted the Mission members with the features and duration of the main stages of the election campaign, presented the results of the nomination of candidates for the President, and also noted that the stage of registration of candidates for the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is currently being completed.

He said that traditionally much attention is paid to the issue of training participants in the electoral process and ensuring the electoral rights of persons with disabilities. Workshops are being held for political parties, youth, media representatives and NGOs. In order to attract the attention of young people to topical issues of the electoral process, to increase their electoral activity and legal culture, the “Club of Young Voters” was also established under the CEC of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The composition of the Expert Council has been updated, which purpose is to develop proposals for the development of the electoral system.

During the meeting, Nurlan Abdirov invited members of the Mission to participate in meetings and training events of the Central Election Commission, and also expressed his readiness to hold meetings of the Mission representatives with members and the CEC office on any issues of interest to the Mission.

During the meeting, members of the OSCE/ODIHR Mission asked questions to members of the Central Election Commission.

“The Central Election Commission will ensure that the election campaign is conducted in strict accordance with the legislation and will create all conditions for healthy and fair competition. We attach great importance to continuing close cooperation and constructive dialogue with the ODIHR, including in the periods between electoral campaigns,” Chairman of the Central Election Commission N. Abdirov emphasised at the end of the meeting.
