
A meeting was held at the Ministry of National Economy, where issues of low-carbon development were discussed. The event was attended by the Head of the Ministry of National Economy Alibek Kuantyrov, Presidential Adviser – Special Representative of the President for International Environmental Cooperation Zulfiya Suleimenova, representatives of line ministries, national companies, international organizations, the Association of the Council of Foreign Investors, scientific and research organizations in the field of low-carbon development.
A.Kuandykov noted that the Roadmap should become the main tool for energy transition and achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2060. A working group has been created. More than 200 experts take part in its work.
According to the minister, decarbonization will affect almost all sectors of the economy, especially energy, industry, agriculture and waste management. When developing the Roadmap, it will be necessary to create a unique model of energy transition for Kazakhstan, taking into account the specifics and effective use of Kazakhstan's competitive advantages in the form of the availability of energy natural resources.
Presidential Adviser - Special Representative of the President for International Environmental Cooperation Zulfiya Suleimenova stressed the relevance and timeliness of the ongoing work towards low-carbon development, as well as the importance of accessibility of climate and transit financing instruments from international financial organizations.
Aliya Shalabekova, Director of the Low-Carbon Development Department of KazMunayGas NC JSC , shared plans for the development of a low-carbon development program and the implementation of projects.
Zhanna Baidasheva, Director of the Association of the Council of Foreign Investors, noted that work is already underway with foreign investors within the framework of the Roadmap being developed.
Representatives of the World Bank, EBRD, UNDP, ADB and GIZ are actively involved in the development of the Roadmap.
Following the meeting, it was decided to join forces to develop a Roadmap and hold regular discussions in working groups.
