Snow leopard caught in the lens of camera traps in the national park "Altyn-Emel"

As previously reported, the camera trap of the national park "Kolsai Kolderi" recorded a snow leopard. Now another good news! This unique "red book" predator is again captured in the lens of a camera trap, this time in the Altyn-Emel National Park. It turned out to be a whole family of a female and her two cubs.

Recall that earlier one adult male leopard was caught in the lens of the folovushka. Rare shots were obtained by zoologists of the Institute of Zoology and specialists of the Department of Science of the National Park.

Currently, the UNDP snow leopard conservation project is being implemented in the park, within the framework of which several camera traps were installed by specialists and snow leopards appeared in all of them.

According to scientists and specialists of the park, the appearance of the leopard in the mountains was facilitated by the closure of amateur and trophy hunting for Siberian mountain goat in the national park since 2017 – the main food item for snow leopards.  To preserve the snow leopard, as well as other red Book animals of the national park, experts recommend speeding up the creation of a protected zone of the national park, as well as creating an ecological corridor in the mountains of Orikty, Tulkili, Koyandytau, Toksanbai, Atyzhok, Dulantau and Ortatau between the national Park and the Verkhne-Koksus State Reserve. This will contribute not only to the unhindered migration and preservation of the snow leopard population throughout the Altyn-Emel mountain range, but also to the appearance of other rare and endangered animals in the national park, such as argali, Turkestan lynx, manul, Tien Shan brown bear, stone marten.
