October 25 - Republic Day

October 25 - Republic Day

On October 25, 1990, by the decision of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR, the declaration "On the State Sovereignty of the Kazakh SSR" was adopted.

From that moment, the prerequisites for the transformation of Kazakhstan into an independent state began. A separate territory of the country, citizenship, the state budget, independence in international relations, and state symbols were approved.

Republic Day, celebrated since 1992 and included in the list of public holidays in 2001, was removed from the list of public holidays in 2009 by order of former President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

This year, at a meeting of the National Assembly, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed to celebrate this holiday again.

"It is necessary to make a number of changes to the list of public holidays and special days. I propose to return the Republic Day to the status of a national holiday. That is why we should celebrate Independence Day every year on October 25 as the main holiday of our country. On October 25, 1990, the Declaration of Independence of Kazakhstan was adopted. This was the first step towards the independence of the country. He said that the First President Nursultan Nazarbayev played a very important and even decisive role in the adoption of this document.According to him, it is important to return the Republic Day. "Republic Day should become a symbol of the country's historic step towards statehood. Of course, the original meaning of Independence Day remains. This day remains a public holiday. But it should be celebrated as the day of remembrance of our national heroes who made a great contribution to the cause of independence," the Head of State said.
