Victory Day was celebrated in Almaty

Large-scale festive events dedicated to the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War took place in Almaty. In the park named after 28 Panfilov soldiers, after a minute of silence, a flower-laying ceremony was held at the Eternal Flame with the participation of Almaty akim Erbolat Dossaev.

Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, home front workers, service members, representatives of law enforcement agencies, maslikhat deputies, public figures and residents of the city laid flowers at the memorial.

After the ceremony, a gala dinner was organized for veterans and home front workers, during which akim congratulated the front-line soldiers on the holiday, expressed gratitude to them for their heroism during the war years and wished them a long life.

“I bow to you for heroic deeds, for the preservation of peace, for our future. I wish you good health and a good mood. We want to see you among us, listen to your wonderful stories and listen to your valuable advice. We will meet with you more often,” said Erbolat Dossaev.

During the meeting, the veterans shared their memoriesread poems and sang front-line songs.

“We conquered the world, we conquered freedom. Those who are among us right now, our children, our grandchildren, our great-grandchildren, this is because we won the Victory. If this had not happened, none of you would be standing with us. I congratulate us on Victory Day and wish you many more years of life. Live, rejoice, so that we meet more than once at this festive table,” said World War II veteran Vladimir Belozerov.

“There aren't many of us left. Many thanks to our akimat for bringing us all together to celebrate the holiday and thank you for our merits, for the Victory. This is the great holiday in the whole world. I served in the Panfilov division from beginning to end. I am sincerely glad to be with you on this special day,” said Kairly Zhonkabaev, the last surviving soldier of the legendary 8th Panfilov Guards Division.

Front-line soldiers thanked akim for their special attention and organization of festive events. Erbolat Dossaev stressed that the city is able and must provide all-round constant support to the front-line soldiers. He instructed to provide all veterans with care and concern, including organizing a monthly home visit of medical workers for regular health checks and actively attracting volunteers.

An exhibition of military equipment was also held in the park named after 28 Panfilov Guardsmen, a field kitchen was organized for residents and guests of the city, and a festive concert was held with the participation of a military orchestra. More than 250 artists were involved in the festive events.

Large-scale festive events were held in all districts of the city. On the holiday, thousands of residents of the city took part in the Batyrlarga Tagzym procession and laid flowers at the Eternal Flame in memory of those who died in the war.

During the war years, 1.3 million Kazakhstanis were called to the front. More than 100 thousand soldiers from Kazakhstan were awarded military orders and medals, and more than 500 people were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. In total, 75 veterans of the Great Patriotic War live in Almaty today.
