Forensic examination is a study of the materials of a criminal, civil case or a case of an administrative offense, conducted on the basis of special scientific knowledge in order to establish the actual data that are important for its resolution;
The task of forensic activity is to ensure the production of criminal, civil cases, as well as in cases of administrative offenses by the results of forensic examination.
To date, the public sector of the judicial expert system of Kazakhstan is represented by the center of forensic examinations of the Ministry of justice, which operates 17 forensic institutes, stationed in major cities and in all regional centers, which employ about 2,800 employees, including more than 1,000 highly qualified forensic experts.
The branches conduct 30 types of forensic examinations in 57 areas of expert specialties; such as forensic (examination of documents, portrait examination, videophonographic, phototechnical, tracological, ballistic examination), chemical (examination of substances and materials, examination of drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues and precursors), medical (examination of corpses, victims, accused and other persons, histological, biological examination (medical), medical-forensic, chemical-Toxicological, narcological, psychiatric and psychological examination), as well as examination of road accidents and technical means, economic, commodity, construction, technological, fire, and explosion-technical expertise, biological, environmental, molecular genetic expertise, expertise of psychophysiological processes of man, expertise of genetically modified organisms, religious expertise, etc.
Besides, at receipt of written addresses of legal entities and physical persons in body of judicial examination researches on a contractual basis on 57 types performed by the experts acting in this case by experts with use of scientific means and methods are carried out.
Also, the Center operates a Research Institute of forensic examinations, the main function of which is the scientific and methodological support of the process of production of forensic examinations, professional training, retraining and advanced training of forensic personnel.
